Our research on criticality has so far included two funded research projects and a range of publications and presentations.
The
Development of Criticality among Undergraduates in Two Academic
Disciplines: Social Work and Modern Languages was a two-year
project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The
project was designed to expand current understanding of the development
of criticality among undergraduates through a cross-sectional study
of students following undergraduate degree courses. The project
was based within two departments at the University of "Westford".
The research is building a theoretical conceptualisation of issues
involved in the development of criticality, grounded in empirical
description of students’ learning experiences. The findings
will be of interest to academics, policy makers, and employers.
The ESRC-funded project on the development of criticality was followed by a project funded by the Social Policy and Social Work Subject Centre (SWAP) in 2005-2006. This project, entitled A Critical Evaluation of a Course Module: Theoretical and Practical Implications, analysed classroom data arising out of the ESRC-funded project.
We plan further publications, presentations and research grant applications.
